AQUAPONICS.... ILLEGAL?! New Segment (1 of 3)

This past week, we've been aware of a rumor that states how aquaponics is illegal nationally because of the use of animal waste. I don't see what the problem is when the fish waste doesn't effect the crops and it's actually helping the environment. There are multiple ways of how aquaponics helps the environment.

Some examples of how it helps the environment:

  • Conserves water by not having to refill the tanks everyday since the system recycles the water.
  • Provides fresher food because the food comes from here and the food from the stores come from the mainland which takes months to get here, which means the food is old.
  • Uses less land space because you can put a lot crops on the same raft rather than spacing it out like in a traditional garden.
  • Its cheaper to grow crops from the system than buying food from the store, because all you need to do is to buy the seeds. While, at a store, you spend more on a head of lettuce.
  • Its faster than traditional gardening by 30% (Resource: Greendesert.org/aquaponics.html)
There are many more ways that aquaponics helps the environment and I don't see why people don't support it. The government should make laws that insist us using aquaponics for everyday gardening. So, I would like to hear some of your opinions on how you feel about aquaponics whether you think it should be legal or illegal. We also would like your help to see if this "law" is fact or fiction.

~Thanks
